Time flies when you are having fun so they say and if that is the case I must be having a ball given the time lapse since my last post. But here I am! It’s 2:35am and I am sleepless. In just a few days I leave with hubby and a friend for my next big adventure and I am excited and terrified in equal measure.
As some of you may know, two years ago I was bitten by the camino/walking bug when I completed the 800km (500 miles) Camino de Santiago from the St Jean Pied de Port in the Pyrenees in southern France to the pilgrim city of Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain. (stories and thoughts from that journey can be found in my earlier blogs) I had such a wonderful experience that I wanted to do it again…and so that bring me to today. On Wednesday next May 30th, I will fly to Lisbon, Portugal and after a day exploring the city of Lisbon we will set out northward on Friday June 1st to walk the 620 plus kilometres from Lisbon, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
I have read that the Portuguese route unlike our earlier camino, the Camino Frances, is less populated and requires the pilgrim to bring a sense of adventure and flexibility. As many of you who know me well will attest, flexibility is not one of my strongest traits, I like certainty and things to be planned, and organised, with written notification to be furnished well in advance of any changes to said plan! And so I am wide awake in the middle of the night with a million thoughts going through my head.
It is my hope that I will update this blog at intervals along the way and hope some of you come along with me on my journey, at least virtually!
The world that’s waiting up for me
That I call my own
Through the dark, through the door
Through where no one’s been before
But it feels like home
They can say, they can say I’ve lost my mind
I don’t care, I don’t care, so call me crazy
We can live in a world that we design
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make
