T minus 12 and Counting – Camino de Santiago here we come

On May 19 hubby and I will begin our long awaited Camino de Santiago, from St. Jean Pied de Port in the French Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostella in North Western Spain, just the small matter of an 800km/500 mile walk along an ancient pilgrim route, called the Camino Frances.

For the last weeks and months we have been training and preparing physically, mentally, emotionally and practically for the adventure of a lifetime, though I am not sure one could ever be fully prepared for this undertaking. I suspect at the end of the day I will have to trust that my preparations have been adequate and then just hold my nose and jump right in.

The walking of the Camino has been on my Bucket List for quite some time and finally the stars have aligned so to speak and we have our dates are set, our tickets booked and we even walked part of the German Camino for a week in early April to try out our gear and test our physical limits, it was tough but we learnt things and hopefully our upcoming walk will be the better for it.

A number of friends have asked if I would be writing about my journey and I was uncertain as I wouldn’t be taking my computer with me needless to say, every ounce is carefully considered when you have to put it on your back every day and walk for several hours! But I have decided I’m going to try and share some brief insights, stories, pictures, thoughts and musing from my journey, here on my blog and through social media (see links below).

I hope you will join me along The Way.
