Friday last was momentous, after months of waiting and wondering if we had made the right decision, our little rolling home is finally here.
Early last year as the world was opening up again we began thinking about what our future travel life might look like and the idea of a camper van start to take shape. I had been following some van lifers on YouTube during the pandemic and other family members who had already taken steps into that world and spoke in glowing terms of the freedom of the lifestyle, now all I had to do was convince hubby that this was the way to go.
As newcomers, camper van shopping was mind boggling, the choices are endless but we had a few boxes to be checked on a list of non-negotiable. If it was to be our home it would need to be comfortable, have a fixed bed, a toilet and have enough storage for living full time on the road. It was hubby who came across the Weinsberg CaraCompact MB Pepper Edition and he was sold too. We placed our order last Summer and the waiting has all been worth it. We picked her up from the dealership and after 2 hours in camper school, learning the ins and outs of her many systems she was finally ours.
Tigín as we have named her is all we hoped for. She seats and sleeps up to 4, has a neat kitchen with oven, hob and fridge, has a small but perfectly formed toilet and shower and all the driving conveniences you would expect from a modern vehicle. As for the name Tigín (pronounced Tig-een), for those of you who don’t speak Irish, means little home, so perfect for our tiny home on wheels.
For now she is parked outside our apartment in Germany and over the coming week we will continue to get to know her, start packing and repacking as we learn how to best make use of the limited space we have and source some of the necessary equipment that will be part and parcel of operating our new home. But I’m delighted to say the adventure has already begun and the open road beckons.

Looks very homey congrats!

Who would have thought Mercedes would get into the camper business? Looks very comfy. I’m sure you’re giddy with excitement, like driving for the first time and the freedom that comes with that. Enjoy the ride and welcome Tigin!
It is a new departure for the camper van manufacturers. Traditionally they built on Fiat and Renault chassis but now Weinsberg are also using a Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis. Really looking forward to putting Tigín through her paces.
So lovely to see your smiling faces and new little home! Wishing you fun adventures and safe travels! And thanks for letting us ride along in your blog.
Thanks Charlotte, I love having friends and family join us on the road.
