With the weather being so bad yesterday, we heard subsequently that we walked through Storm Miguel, we had one final walk to complete, the 4km from the village of Finisterre out to the Cape Lighthouse and mile marker 0.00.
After a hearty breakfast we set out to the Cape with the plan to celebrate our achievement, return to the village and catch the 3pm bus back to Santiago for our flight home on Saturday evening.
All was going to plan, we spent a leisurely couple of hours out at the Cape, basking in our achievement and a beautiful warm sunny day. Chatting with some of our new pilgrim friends about their plans etc.
As we walked back in to the village I was thinking it was a shame that we would spend a large part of such a beautiful afternoon cooped up in a stuffy bus when an idea came to mind! Could we possibly make Muxia ~29km away before lunchtime tomorrow and get back to the airport in time for our flight? I floated the idea and we agreed to think about it as we walked the final kilometers to the tourist office to get our Finisterrana (certificate).
Once there we worked on the logistics of our revised plan, was it possible? Amazingly everything feel into place, so after a nice lunch we set out on our way to the village of Lires, roughly the halfway point and our stop for the night.
Another beautiful walk, on shady hillside forest roads with views to the coast and beaches. We arrived to our casa for the night, our host was baking and she cut a big chunk of cake, and gave us the makings of coffee before showing us to our room.
We are back there now after a lovely meal in a local restaurant and it will be an early night as we will be in the road in the morning before dawn for an 8-9km climb before and even steeper decent to the village of Muxia, which I promise will be the final destination for our walk!
Wow, what an adventure you are on! Keep it up, and thanks for the insights and pix from along thecway!
